Area of a triangle using sine

Higher only

The idea

The area of any triangle is 12absin⁡C\frac{1}{2}ab\sin C, where CC is the angle between sides aa and bb.

  1. Find two sides and the angle between them.
  2. Substitute into 12absin⁡C\frac{1}{2}ab\sin C.
  3. If the angle you have is not between them, use the sine or cosine rule first.

Watch out The angle must be the one between the two sides you use.
