The idea

A ratio of 2:32 : 3 splits a whole into 55 equal parts, so the first share is 25\tfrac{2}{5} of the total and the second is 35\tfrac{3}{5}.

  1. Add the parts of the ratio to get the total number of parts.
  2. Each share is its part over that total.
  3. Turn a fraction back into a ratio: if 14\tfrac{1}{4} are red, red to not red is 1:31 : 3.

Watch out In 2:32 : 3, the first share is 25\tfrac{2}{5}, not 23\tfrac{2}{3}.
