What you get

  • Your marks, your likely grade and your weakest topic straight away, no account needed.
  • With a free account: the skills to fix first, a two-week plan and every answer worked through.
  • Your result and plan stay in your account, ready when you come back.

How the range is worked out

  1. Each question has a difficulty level. Difficulty levels are set by our question writers.
  2. We take off the answers a guesser would get right by luck (one in four on four options). Too few left and we say so rather than guess a grade.
  3. We find the ability that best explains how many you got right, allowing for how hard those questions were.
  4. We place that ability among the 623,435 students who sat AQA GCSE English Language in 2026, and read the grade from the board's published shares: 2.4% got grade 9 and 63.1% grade 4 or above.
  5. Twelve questions cannot pin down one grade; a full paper narrows it.

Questions

How accurate is the grade?

It is a range, because twelve questions cannot pin down one grade. A full timed paper marked against the grade boundaries is the closer check.

Is it like the real exam?

No. AQA papers are mostly written answers, from a few lines to a full piece of writing. These questions check the reading and writing choices behind them, so treat the grade as a guide.

Is it only for AQA?

The questions follow AQA 8700, the most common GCSE English Language course.

Do I need an account?

No. Your marks, likely grade and weakest topic show straight away. A free account adds the lesson for each weak topic, a two-week plan and every answer worked through, and keeps them.

What does it cover?

Reading a fiction extract, sentence choices, tone, structure and evidence.

What grade do most students get?

In 2026, 2.4% of AQA GCSE English Language students got grade 9 and 63.1% got grade 4 or above.
