Paper 2 Question 1: four true statements

The idea

Paper 2 Question 1 gives eight statements about a section of Source A. You shade the four that are true. It is worth 4 marks and tests careful reading of exact wording.

  1. Read only the lines named in the question.
  2. Test each statement against the text word by word.
  3. Shade exactly four; shading more loses the extra marks.

Watch out A statement that is nearly right, such as one with the wrong time or a stronger word than the text uses, is false.

Worked example

Source lines: "By noon the crowd had doubled, though few had come to hear the speaker." Is "Most of the crowd came to hear the speaker" true?

  1. The text says few came to hear the speaker.
  2. "Most" contradicts "few".
  3. So the statement is false.
