Two sections, two and a quarter hours
Section A is 42 multiple-choice questions on 12 argumentative passages in 95 minutes. Section B gives you 40 minutes to write one essay from a choice of three.
Universities see your score first
LNAT sends the first batch of scores to them on 21 October, covering tests sat from 1 September to 20 October. After that, within 24 hours of your test.

Does Cambridge require the LNAT?
Yes, for Law (M100). Cambridge's own admissions test page names the National Test for Law and says you must register in advance. Its deadline matches Oxford's.
How many universities use the LNAT?
Nine in the UK, listed in the table above. Three outside the UK also use it: O.P. Jindal Global University, Singapore University of Social Sciences and IEU.
What is the LNAT deadline for 2027 entry?
It depends where you apply. Oxford and Cambridge applicants sit by 15 October 2026; Oxford's Foundation Year in Law sits by 13 January 2027. Bristol and Durham applicants book, apply and sit by 13 January 2027. Every other university takes bookings until 20 January 2027. King's, LSE and UCL applicants sit by 31 December 2026, and Glasgow and SOAS applicants by 25 January 2027.
