Speaking preparation

Paper 2 is a role-play, reading aloud with a short conversation, and a photo card with an unprepared conversation. Practise these prompts aloud, with a friend, a parent or your teacher. Nothing here is recorded or marked: the course has no audio.

One card of each kind is free. The course opens all 12 role-plays, 12 reading-aloud texts, 9 photo cards and the conversation questions for all 9 topics.

Reading aloud

Identity and relationships · Foundation · 56 words

Sounds to watch
  • ll in llamo, Ella and llevo sounds like the English y in yes.
  • j in Julia and Jorge, and g before e in Jorge, are both the throaty h sound (like loch).
  • h is silent: hermano, hace and hay start with a vowel sound.
  • c before e or i (doce, gracioso, veces, hace) is th in Spain or s in Latin America; z is the same sound.
  • que and porque: the u is silent, so say ke.
  • ñ in años is like ny in canyon; ch in mucha and escuchan is as in English church.
  • v in vivo and veces is a soft b, not an English v.
