GCSE Spanish

GCSE Spanish translation, both ways

There are two translations, each worth 10 marks: Spanish into English at the end of the reading paper, and English into Spanish in the writing paper.

Into EnglishPaper 3, Section B, 10 marks
Into SpanishPaper 4, 10 marks
FoundationAt least 35 words
HigherAt least 50 words

Into English

Translate the meaning, not word by word. Keep every tense, negative and time word, and write natural English: «me gusta mucho» is «I really like», not «to me it pleases much».

Into Spanish

Check each verb for the person and the tense, make adjectives agree, and use the words from the vocabulary list you know well. A short, accurate sentence is worth more than a long one with the meaning lost.

How does the course mark a translation?

Each passage is split into ten parts. A part is credited when your translation carries its meaning in one of the ways we accept, and you see every part with an accepted version. Your teacher may accept other good versions too.
